Communications Specialist

About

Biography

Shelby Skumanich is a quilt alchemist, an artist, a community facilitator, a storyteller, and an agent of change whose work thrives in the in-between and questions assumptions about craft and women’s work. She received a Bachelors of Fine Art from Lesley College of Art and Design where she studied photography, booking making, and art history.

Shelby’s textile work focuses on autobiographical abstract modern quilts. She sees them as a form of alchemy: a process of transformation and creation. In quilting, she finds sanctuary, community, and connection to a rich history of women's work. Her non-linear professional experience includes fine art, photography, sustainable agriculture, non-profit leadership, building business and operational systems, project management, and marketing.

Currently, she works for the Department of Art and Art History as a Communication Specialist and Internship Coordinator.
