Biography

Professor Lehene teaches all levels of drawing courses, the Studio Art Graduate Seminar ART696I, the occasional painting course, and works with graduate students in the Drawing Area as well in other areas of the Department of Art and Art History at Colorado State University. Romanian-born, he is active as an artist in the United States and internationally. Lehene's recent exhibitions include shows at CICA Museum, South Korea, Casa Matei Gallery at the University of Art and Design in Cluj, Romania, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Manifest – Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, Pollock Gallery at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and the Ice Cube Gallery in Denver, Colorado. He is the Editor's Choice of the 2018 edition of New American Painting - West exhibition in print. Lehene is the winner of the 2010 McNeese National Works on Paper Exhibition and of the 2007 edition of Positive/Negative National Juried Exhibition, and he received an award from the 7th Dave Bown Projects Competition. His collaborative book with poet Matthew Cooperman, Imago for the Fallen World, was published by Jaded Ibis Press, Seattle, in 2013. Lehene holds an MFA degree in Painting and Drawing from Southern Methodist University and a BA in Economics from Babeş-Bolyai University, Romania.
