Biography

Belle-Pilar Fleming is an Academic Support Coordinator and Graduate Program Assistant for the Department of Art & Art History.

Belle-Pilar holds a BA in Psychology from Warren Wilson College and an MFA in Printmaking from Ohio University. Her artistic work is focused around themes of identity formation, political histories, and the emotional realities of sociocultural systems. While her work is primarily rooted in printmaking she frequently incorporates textiles, utilizing quilting, embroidery, and other sewing methods. Belle-Pilar enjoys working with students to help them define their own academic and personal success and encourages all students to explore, push, and redefine their limits. Prior to attending graduate school Belle-Pilar worked as the Assistant Manager for the Carleton College Global Engagement Buddhist Studies program in Bodh Gaya, India where she provided administrative and academic support while helping students adjust to life abroad.  She also has experience teaching art in a variety of settings and is passionate about using art as a tool for community engagement and social entrepreneurship.

Outside of work, Belle-Pilar enjoys spending time in the studio, cooking, or going outside. She loves to travel and it always interested in learning something new.
