Incoming Art majors will find the Department of Art & Art History to be a warm, welcoming and rigorous environment. Students pursuing a degree in Art understand and embrace the ideals of a liberal arts education and truly believe they have the potential to make a difference in the world. It is the mission of our department to help students fulfill their potential.

The Visual Art building encourages students to engage fully in the arts community. Four galleries in the building provide ample opportunity for students to experience art on many levels, including space for traveling national exhibitions, faculty exhibitions, and graduate and undergraduate exhibitions for students at all levels. We offer a rich array of well-equipped studios that invite creative innovation and challenge students to master not only traditional fine art and craft techniques but cutting edge technologies such as digital fabrication and 3D printing. In addition to challenging academic programs, many students participate in internships or service learning opportunities relating directly to their area of study or enjoy the collegiality offered through student art organizations. Incoming freshmen also have the option to join the Arts & Creative Expression community, a residential learning community housed in Parmelee Hall.

Students are encouraged to establish a relationship with an art adviser who can help them understand the four different degree programs and ten different studio concentration options, discuss minor options, and get them connected to CSU’s valuable campus resources.

If you’re interested in visiting the Visual Art Building and meeting an advisor, please call 970-491-6774 to schedule.
